Everyone is a photographer.....

Ok, this is old, but worth repeating.  Why is it that everyone owns a frying pan, yet don't consider themselves cooks?  Or, a hammer and a saw, yet they're not a carpenter?  Or..... a pool net but they're not a poolboy?  Ok, maybe the last one is a bit off, but you get my drift.

Yet.... everyone who owns a camera thinks they're a photographer?

WHY?

Here's why.... secretly everyone wants to be a photographer.  Yep, secretly, way down deep inside, you know in that dark place in the back of your mind, where you keep your stash of M&M's no one knows about.  Yeah, there.  See it?  You know you want to.  Well... quit it!  Its very annoying.

Seriously though, at some point have you not pointed a camera at something and thought to yourself, "I could do this for a living.  Hell, its not that hard."  Admit it!  You have!

Here's the kicker.... Photography is not brain surgery, its being in the right place, with the right settings, and the right elements to create a pleasing image.  Sounds simple, right?  Well.... it takes years to recognize the right elements, skill to interpret things into dials and switches, and some creativity to realize what to point the damn thing at in the first place.  Sure, everyone gets a nice shot here and there, its the old saying, "Throw enough crap against a wall, some of it's bound to stick."  And really, whats wrong with that?  So you took a dozen shots of that sunset to get one good one..... Big deal, and Good for you!

Getting off track here....oops!

Most people if they took the time to learn and spent the time practicing, could become decent photograph makers.  I didn't say photographers, that requires people skills too (unless you're a nature photographer, but they're actually on the endangered species list, so I hear).  People skills?  Yeah, you know, talking to people to get them to do something you want them to do?  Yeah, that.  Kinda important.  Anyway, all the technical ability in the world won't help you if your subject hates you.  The photo is still gonna suck be awful.

What's my point?  Do I need one?  Just felt like talking, it's just how I see it.
